What therapy can do is to assist us in changing our behavior, not who we are.
I am a licensed psychologist and have been in practice since 1991. I specialize in working with adults experiencing anxiety disorders and/or depression. I also see couples who would like to improve their relationship. I coach adults recently diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder with or without Hyperactivity (ADD/ADHD) to improve organization and planning skills, as well as to develop impulse control. I also work with older adults who are facing the changes unique to that stage of life.
Following 11 years as a Corporate Psychologist, I am uniquely qualified to coach managers/executives, and often their families, in their personal, as well as professional lives.
My philosophy in working with all clients is based on performance related psychological principles: Concentrate on the behavioral strengths of the individual and minimize the effect of real or perceived behavioral shortcomings. My goal in therapy is to create a supportive relationship which provides safety for reflecting ideas, evoking solutions and supporting the implementation of behavior change. This is accomplished through acting as a sounding board, facilitator, and coach and awareness raiser. In addition to experience, the skills I bring to this task are:
Patience and empathy
Support and reflection
Perception and awareness
Objectivity and active listening
I received both my Masters degree and doctorate from Georgia State University. My undergraduate degree is from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. I have served on the faculties of Georgia State University, Mercer University and Agnes Scott College. For 11 years I was Vice President and Corporate Psychologist for a large hospitality company. I served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Psychological Association and am a past president and a Fellow of that organization. I have served as the Governor’s appointee to the Board of the Department of Community Health.
